ITC 2006 - (Small Country Award)

World TPO Awards - 2006

From Mongolia to Finland, Mauritius to Zambia, El Salvador to Chile,
They’re Doing a Lot about Exporting

The trade promotion organizations of five countries were recognized by their peers the 6th World Conference of Trade Promotion Organizations. The winners for each category were:
Finland: Developed Country               Chile: Developing Country
Mauritius: Small Country               Zambia: Least Developed
Mongolia: Transition Economy               El Salvador: Panellists’ Surprise

Enterprise Mauritius is being recognised as the Best TPO from a Small Country. Although only established in 2005, Enterprise Mauritius is already making its mark within Mauritius, as the agency providing a coordinated, structured approach to business development and export expansion. With its private sector structure, looking both at its client’s internal capacity and international market issues, Enterprise Mauritius is leading Mauritius’ drive to diversify its exports beyond sugar and textiles and to open up new markets.

It has set itself five goals: to transform industry from production push to a market driven approach; to provide strategic direction by helping develop sector strategies; to improve exporter’s international connections, through joint development of Mauritius’s Country Brand; to help clients to improve their capacity through implementation of an agreed Client Development Plan; and generally, to improve the business environment. These goals and the delivery methods being used are all replicable by other similar developing countries.
